Ethereal Display Options
Customizing the Ethereal Capture Screen Display
Ethereal allows you to customize the display in the capture window.
You can, for example, change the format of the Time field, or choose to resolve addresses into names.
Click on Display, Options
The Display Options dialog box appears.
If a button is raised the option is Off, if a button is pressed the option is On.
Options are grouped into different functions.
Time Options
The first four options relate to the appearance of the Time field.
Time of day
Shows the time the packets were captured in the format, hh:mm:ss, to six decimal places.
Date and time of day
Shows the date, in ANSI format, yyyy:mm:dd, and the time the packets were captured in the format, hh:mm:ss, to six decimal places.
Seconds since beginning of capture
Shows the time in seconds since the start of the capture, to six decimal places.
Seconds since previous frame
Shows the time differences in seconds between consecutive packets, to six decimal places.
Scrolling
Automatic scrolling in live capture
If selected the packets list box will scroll as new packets are captured.
Name Resolution Options
Enable MAC address resolution
Resolves MAC level addresses into names.
Enable network name resolution
Resolves network level addresses into names.
Enable transport name resolution
Resolves transport level addresses into names.
When you have made your selections
Click Apply
The changes are reflected on the screen.
The Display Options dialog box remains open.
Click OK
to apply the changes and close the Display Options dialog box.
Click Cancel
to ignore the changes and close the Display Options dialog box.
