Adding a GSM modem to a HWgroup Poseidon 4002

Receiving alerts by SMS is a very convenient way of ensuring that you are always informed of the conditions in your Server Room or Datacentre. The following describes how to fit GSM modem to the HWgroup Poseidon 4002.

  1. Fit the SIM card in the GSM modem, making sure that the position of the cutout matches the diagram printed on the modem cover. Fig 1.
  2. Press the SIM until it locks into place. Fig2. Attach the modem antenna to the terminal opposite the SIM slot. fig 3. The antenna screws into the connector. Do not force the cable or bend the central pin. Fig4. The base of the antenna is magnetic so it can be paced on any steel surface.
  3. Connect the serial cable (supplied) to the modem and to the HWgroup Poseidon 4002. Fig 5. The cable has a male end and a female end check before trying to insert into the socket. Do not force the connection or bend the pins. Fix the connector using the screws.
  4. Attach the power connector to the modem. Fig 6. The connector is next to the connection for the serial cable. Push the connector all the way in. 
  5. Plug the power supply in and switch on. The left hand green light will come on. After few seconds the right hand green light will flash. Fig 7.
