The Basic Protector Package is an affordable complete entry-level solution for monitoring the temperature in the smaller server room environment round the clock.

Smaller businesses may not have the back-up systems available in larger organisations, so an air conditioning breakdown or overheating over the weekend could seriously affect your business, let alone create server functioning problems further down the line. If you are the only person in your company responsible for IT, the Basic Protector Package will take some of the weight off by ensuring you will be alerted the instant temperatures start to rise and before they do any costly damage.

What Temperature is Right for My Servers?

Computer and networking equipment needs to operate in a fairly narrow range to ensure reliability and long life. Even a few degrees too hot can blow a server chip.

General recommendations suggest that you should not go below 10°C (50°F) or above 28°C (82°F). However, these represent extreme ends of the range and therefore we recommend an optimum running temperature of 18-20°C.

How The Protector Package Works

The Basic Protector Package is made up of 3 easy to install elements:

• The F Model Base Unit: Plugs into the serial port on your PC, has a built-in web server and collects data from the probe.
• The Temperature Probe: A thin15 metre cable which runs from the base unit with a thermocouple device at the end which is placed where you wish to monitor the temperature.
• HotSpot Monitoring Software: Used to set temperature parameters, graph and log temperatures and set up email alerts should temperatures rise above set limits.

SMS Alert Option

If you would also like alerting via SMS to mobile and landline phones there is also an SMS Alert Option available with the additional purchase of an SMS Modem.
