I'm really confused, and getting annoyed.

The price of this box seams to have doubled? Could someone explain what happened here?

Thanks,
Derry

Yes, it looks like a great deal to be frank. I've just been round to his house and it is very small and neat.

There was a promotion when you get it for £79 but I think that has now finished. But they reckon it costs about £1/year to run. You could happily run a small website/blog on it and asterisk, and probably act as a local file server too.

Here's another gem that just turned up. My business partner has been lent one of these: http://www.viglen.co.uk/viglen/Products_Services/Product_Range/Product_file.aspx?eCode=XUBUMPCL&Type_Info=Description&Type=Desktops&GUID=.

It's a 400Mhz Geode with an 80G hdd and 512M ram. Not bad for £99.

Last night he got Asterisk running very nicely on top of Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10). We think it is probably around the 5W mark for the whole device although can't verify that yet.

This one (http://www.theopensourcerer.com/2007/09/08/untangle-asterisk-pbx-and-file-server-all-in-one/) cost me about £200 if I recall correctly. It's been very reliable and runs far more than I would have expected.

The *really* cool thing is I have even "down-clocked" it... It's supposed to run at 1.2Ghz but mine runs at 1.0 and is as happy as Larry. lol.

I remember a sales man laughing at me when I wanted a PC for £1,000...these devices are just *so* cheap. The Transtec is only £309..the fit-PC just £199! I paid well north of £300 for a really really slow modem more years ago than I'd care to mention.

Yea, this look like an awesome machine. Michael mentioned it a couple of days ago too. It's insanely small and for the things you'd want to use it for, it's not underpowered. Very nice.

That's a really cool device. Thanks Jack.

I run a VIA C7 Jetway board for my home server, telephone exchange (asterisk) and development platform, that is rated at about 7W (Plus the HDD, PSU etc...).

I love these low power, lean machines. Funnily enough I was beating up (nicely) Transtec (http://www.transtec.co.uk/GB/E/products/personal_computer/pc/mini_pc.html) yesterday at the Linux Expo Live in Olympia telling them they had a really nice box, but that 65W and a dual core Core2 was just TOO much grunt.
