We are currently working on the follow up to the (very) recent release of OPENXTRA HotSpot v3.0. The main focus of version 3.1 will be Windows PowerShell.
PowerShell is the Windows version of all of those nice shells available for *nix. Traditionally Windows has been rather weak in the sys admin automation stakes. PowerShell is designed to close the gap on *nix…and you know I think they’ve gone and done it.
Windows PowerShell looks like it has a good chance of changing Windows sys admin forever…and I do mean for the better.
We’ve implemented a cmdlet for talking to the Sensatronics sensors and it was a lot easier than we first feared. I planned for 15 days and it came in at under two.
It is ridiculously easy to retrieve the sensor data, filter it and present it. When combined with something like PowerGadgets things start to get really interesting.
We are only at the beginning of the evolution of PowerShell. Administering Windows desktops and servers is going to get a lot easier.
