New product re-organisation coming soon
We are getting close to finalising the new shop’s product categorisation.
We have deliberately avoided any big changes. The categorisation is a little deeper than the current system.
The main focus of the new system is to make products easier to find. The re-categorisation is just one part of making things easier to find.
The current categorisation looks like this:
- Temperature Monitors
- Temperature Probes
- Cable Testers
- Network Testers
- Tone Tracers & Tone Generators
- Phone Testers
- SMS Modems
- Remote Power Controllers
- Software
- Network Monitors
All told a rather flat categorisation.
The new, soon to be released categorisation look like this:
- Temperature Monitors
- Probes
- Kits
- Temperature Probes
- K-type
- PT100
- Thermometers
- Data Loggers
- Infrared
- Digital
- Network
- Cable Testers
- Copper
- Active Network
- Wireless
- Home
- Software
- Phone Testers
- Cable Locators
- Tone Generators
- Tone Tracers
- Outlet Identifiers
- Kits
- Kits
- Network Monitors
- Accessories
- Serial Ethernet Adapters
- SMS Modems
As you can see, a lot of work has gone into breaking down the Cable Testers category. The separate Network Testers section has been merged into the Cable Testers category. The Tone Generators & Tone Tracers section has been moved into the Cable Testers section too. It is now a sub-category called Cable Locators in reference to the fact that there are more ways to find cables than just toning them.
The Telephone Testers have also been moved into the Cable Testers category too. All in all the Cable Testers section has become a lot more important. One thing the re-organisation has brought into sharp relief is that we are missing some quite obvious product categories. The most glaring of all is fibre testers. We will be looking into the missing products over the next few months.
The Software section has been moved into the Cable Testers category too. That’s what the software related to so it didn’t make sense to have it as a root category.
The new categories should be rolled out in mid-April. We welcome feedback!
