- Why is Network Cabling Different
If your queries to us are anything to go by, yes they do. We have noticed a trend with more and more electricians ringing up enquiring about cable testing for networks. So, electricians are being contracted to install network cabling.
There has been much talk over the last few years about convergence. Well, it is real. It isn’t just a Silicon Valley buzzword. It is happening in the real world.
From the conversations I have had, it is not the large installations where electricians are being dragged in, nor many medium sized ones. The medium/large installations are still very much within the domain of the dedicated network installers. But, at the lower end of the scale, electricians are being asked to install network cabling.
This may come as a surprise to many, though there is plenty of logic to it. Electricians already know plenty about the layout, pulling cables, stripping and terminating wires, fixing wall boxes and a host of other things that are relevant to network cabling.
This article series will attempt to provide some of the differences between regular cabling like power and network cabling. Hopefully we can help to minimise the number of horror stories we hear about. The series will be published over the next week or so.
